He made his living as an\u00a0orthopedic surgeon\u00a0and later as the manager of a\u00a0saw mill\u00a0and\u00a0glass factory. His music is inventive, sometimes playful, occasionally quirky, always enjoyable. The Symphony No. 2 was not premiered until 1914.\u00a0 Alfv\u00e9n&#8217;s Symphony No. 2 from 1899 established him as a serious composer of note in Sweden.
